Kankakee School District Food Service
The mission of the Food Service Department is to provide reasonably priced, high quality, nutritious meals to the students and staff in a fast and friendly manner. The program is funded under the National School Lunch Act and Child Nutrition Act. The United States Department of Agriculture administers federal laws regulating the food program through the Illinois State Board of Education.
Breakfast and lunch are served to students in Grades K-12 and to the Head Start students through the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. Snacks are served to all afternoon Head Start students and to the morning and afternoon Bright Beginnings students. On days when enrichment programs keep students after school, supper is served through the Child and Adult Care Food Program. During the summer, meals are available free of charge in various locations throughout Kankakee through the Summer Food Service Program.
