Pay close attention to read the, “Hey, is this you,” information at the bottom!

Current Scholarships

We are down to about 11 weeks…if you are planning to attend college, you should know where you are going and have an acceptance letter.  If you have applied to colleges and haven’t heard anything….talk to your guidance counselor and we will call the schools in question.  It’s still not too late to apply to certain colleges that have a rolling application program, such as Northern Illinois University for example.  Don’t delay in this process.

Reminders:

Ø     If you have committed to one college but have been accepted to others, send a note of thanks and let them know that you have made your choice and you will not be attending to that school.  Remember, other kids are waiting to hear, so don’t take up a spot that you aren’t going to use.

Ø     Do you have 3 letters of recommendation on hand to use for scholarships or college?  If not, ask now!  If you are asking teachers, you can ask them to email your counselor and we will put the recommendation on school paper and keep it on file for you to use as needed.

Ø       Make sure you read the scholarship applications in full.  Don’t leave out any information or essays!

Finish STRONG!

Hey….is this you?
Ø     If you are a senior planning to attend college and have NOT applied…what are you waiting for? It’s getting late, so please see your counselor if you need help applying or have questions about what you may want to do after high school.  Don’t wait!
Ø     Also, now is a good time to ask your parents to contact their tax agency or accountant to make an appointment to file their taxes…..why is this important?  You need their information to complete the FAFSA (financial aid application) for college!  If you have worked the past year, you need to check to see if you need to file as well.
Ø     Have you applied a while back and still haven’t heard anything from the college?  TELL your counselor!  We will call and check and if need be, send your transcripts again!  Be proactive…this is your future!
Ø     Back-up plan…have one!  Maybe you have applied to a college but haven’t been accepted, maybe you should consider applying to KCC or another college…it doesn’t mean you HAVE to attend, but it will feel good to be responsible and have a back up plan if plan #1 falls through or needs to change!
