DEMOGRAPHICS/PROGRAMS
Kankakee Junior High School has 700 students. The ethnic makeup of our student population is approximately 65% Black, 24% white, 11% Hispanic and 1% Multi-Racial. We believe in the middle school concept. Our students a scheduled into four academic teams.
COURSE OFFERINGS
KJHS avergage student schedules include a double period in Mathematics and English One period classes in Social Studies, Science, and Physical Education. Technology, Art, Family Consumer Science, and KASE classes make up our Encore classes. Classes are also in Fine Arts, these classes consist of Band, Drama, Orchestra, Choir, Piano, and Jazz Band.
We also offer a Read 180 program to increase students’ abilities in Reading and Comprehension.
SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN
We are continuing to work on our School Improvement Plan which includes three primary goals:
Improving student achievement in Mathematics
Improving student achievement in Reading
Improving student behavior
We are in our third year of using the Merit Point System. Each student begins the year with 100 points, with each discplinary infraction points are deducted from the students point total. Students must maintian 80 points to participate in extra curricular events.
