King Middle School

King Middle school offers many educational opportunities which also include:

Computer Education Magnet
  • In this program the District’s regular academic curriculum is combined with a special focus on computer instruction. Children in kindergarten through sixth grade spend between two to four hours a week, depending on their grade level, in the school’s 28 unit computer lab. The Computer Magnet Program utilizes a variety of multi-media programs to expand, enrich, and individualize the curriculum areas of creative writing, language arts, mathematics and problem solving. Teachers use cooperative learning techniques to stimulate reasoning, oral language, and questioning skills of children.

Math Education Magnet

  • In this program, the District’s regular academic curriculum is combined with a special emphasis on mathematics. Students are engaged in a variety of activities in the areas of numeration, problem-solving, ratios and fractions, measurement, time and money, and geometry, all designed to expand and enrich the District’s regular math curriculum. The learning experience is enhanced with a high level of technology integration.

E2T2 Enhancing Education Through Technology

  • After receiving an E2T2 Grant in 2006 a portion of King’s teachers took part in professional development and training that provided them with the skills to operate and make use of the latest educational technology. This technology is available in nine classrooms and consists of the following: 9 computers, an LCD projector and smartboard, scanner, multi-feed scanner, elmo, video recorder, 10 digital cameras, camera printer, senteo student response system (set of 30), electronic wireless slate, lab size color laser printer, calculators and a digital video document reader. This technology increases student achievement and success, raises the level of student engagement in the classroom during instruction time and decreases incidents of misbehavior with our students due to inattentiveness. These positive results led to the installation of smartboards and projectors in all classrooms.

Gifted Education Classes

  • King Middle School has self contained gifted classrooms at the third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade levels. The curriculum is accelerated, at least 1-1 ½ years, in all subject areas. This instruction is multi-disciplinary and is given by their classroom teacher. Projects and tasks involving higher order thinking skills are built in all units of study. We also have gifted cluster groups here at King. Differentiated instruction is provided in the regular classrooms in a cluster-group structure. Regular teachers in these cluster group classrooms have training in gifted education. The regular teacher is the primary instructional delivery source with the facilitating teacher providing support and a supplemental push-in/pull-out program. Facilitators meet cluster-group students at the assigned schools for two hours per week. The subjects of Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics are enhanced through higher level thinking skills throughout the course of the year.
